The day started off slow, cold, and rainy–like most days this past week. V., a friend of mine from ultimate, and I were undettered. We made tracks toward the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC), even in the face of a big rain cloud. The rain never materialized and we enjoyed a beautiful sunny day with lots of smelly animals.
Not a zoo exactly, the Center works in conjuction with Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game to provide space for animals that are injured or would otherwise be destroyed. What we thought must be the alpha elk got super close to me and really impressed me with just how large these herbivores are. Wow.
